GLOW sticks and neon tutus are back in fashion at a Port Glasgow school as pupils stage their blockbuster annual show.

A production and performance crew from St Stephen's High are busy putting the final touches to spectacular end of term production, 'Back to the '80s'.

A cast of around 40 teenagers will pay homage to the music and fashion of the decade when they take to the stage next week.

There will be performances on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and it is shaping up to be one of the most spectacular shows to date thanks to the support of a number of local businesses.

Classroom assistant Suzie O'Donoghue is helping to organise the production and says there is a real buzz around the school.

She said: "It's looking great.

"It's dress-up for the audience as well and The Albany have kindly donated a meal for two as a prize for the best dressed.

"We've done really well this year with sponsors, including Ferguson's, The Kafay and Arrow Barbers in Greenock.

"The big Rubix cube was donated by the Waterfront Cinema.

"It's all helped to make this year's show even bigger and better."

Suzie is also a singing tutor and has been helping pupils with their vocals and working on the performance alongside principal teacher of music, Kevin O'Donoghue, and Danny McGarvey, a former high school English teacher, who is producing.

The St Stephen's art department has been in full swing helping to create the set, which includes an eight-foot high mobile phone and a super-sized ghetto blaster.

There will also be glow sticks on sale for the audience and a selfie photo booth.

The cast this year includes pupils of all ages, including Reuben McNeill, who is in S1 and wearing the denim jacket, and Holly Callaghan, who is one of the cheerleaders, and is in third year.

Suzie said: "The cast is from across all year groups.

"With everyone dressed up and their glow sticks, there will be a real party atmosphere.

"We're really looking forward to it."

The last night is almost a sell-out and tickets are going fast for the other performances.
