TWO police officers have been rushed to hospital after being injured in an incident in Greenock.
The officers came under attack while in Gateside Gardens early this morning.
Their conditions at Inverclyde Royal are at this time unknown.
The incident happened just before 9am and sparked a major response, with local police rushing to the scene followed by a huge fleet of Police Scotland resources called down from Glasgow.
A total of 18 vehicles travelled down the M8 to Inverclyde after the alarm was raised.
The force helicopter was also drafted in as the area was sealed off, with Gateside Gardens and Grieve Road both closed down.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 8.45am today to an incident in Gateside Gardens, Greenock.
"Two officers were injured and taken to the IRH for treatment."
Police say there are no details available on the extent of the officers' injuries and added that a man had been detained at the scene.
The spokeswoman added: "Officers are at the scene and enquiries continuing.
"A man is in custody and has been taken to hospital."
