FIREFIGHTERS in Inverclyde have been attacked for a second time in just over a week
The Tele can reveal that crews were pelted with stones on Wednesday night during a callout to a bonfire in Greenock.
One officer was hit on the head by a flying missiles just after they left Killochend Drive at around 9.30pm.
Greenock station manager Mark Meehan said: "Stones were thrown at firefighters once they had extinguished the fire.
"One firefighter was hit on the helmet."
The senior fireman hit out at the culprits.
He said: "It is totally unacceptable.
"Crews are there to protect the public and are being attacked while carrying out their duties."
Crews were also targeted with bottles in Gourock over the recent bank holiday weekend.
On this occasion one the bottles launched by yobs hit a fireman.
Mr Meehan said: "Crews turned out to the old quarry to a grass fire and youths threw bottles and hit a firefighter."
Police were called for back up to the Gourock incident.
They were already dealing with huge numbers of youths who had flocked to Tower Hill for a marathon under-age drinking session which ended in violence and disturbances in surrounding streets.
Anyone with information about either attack on the firefighters should call the police on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
