A BIG budget Bollywood blockbuster is being filmed in Inverclyde.

Cast and crew from forthcoming thriller 'Badla', which means revenge, were on location at a house in Greenock's Newton Street and at Kip Marina in Inverkip on Thursday.

Big-name Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu and legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan are starring in the production, which is about a high-flying businesswoman who tries to cover up a hit-and-run.

Filming has now moved on to other places but cast and crew could return here at a later date according to experienced Glasgow location manager Derek Yeomans, who helped bring the shoot to Inverclyde.

He knows the area well having worked here several times in the past, including with local actor Martin Compston on an ITV drama two years ago in the former district courtroom within the Municipal Buildings.

Derek told the Tele: "Greenock is a great place to come and film.

"There's lots of amazing houses and buildings.

"I was involved in the Peter Manuel TV series, 'In Plain Sight', with Martin Compston when it was filmed in Greenock a couple of years ago.

"'Badla' is a big production with filming also taking place in Glasgow and we're going up to Aviemore.

"We may go back to Kip Marina if the schedule allows it."

Filming took place in the west end during the day before the crew packed up and headed down the A78 to Inverkip on Thursday evening.

Derek said: "It's not a singing and dancing film, it's a remake of 'The Invisible Guest', which is a great Spanish film and really well made.

"It's about a powerful businesswoman's fall from grace as she accidentally gets involved in a hit-and-run death and tries to cover it up.

"I've worked on three or four different Bollywood films and wanted to shoot a scene at a marina port so we took them to Inverkip.

"We had to find a location close by to make a full day of shooting so I got in touch with someone who lives in Newton Street and we did a half day there and half in Inverkip."

Inverclyde has become a popular location for filming in recent times, including for hit BBC detective series 'Shetland', starring Douglas Henshall 12 months ago and new network TV drama 'The Victim, featuring actors John Hannah and Kelly Macdonald earlier this year.
