A FAMILY from Greenock have finally flown out on their dream holiday to Florida thanks to a Tele appeal.

The Murrays were due in Orlando last Wednesday but a ticket issue and confusion over boarding times at Glasgow Airport saw them miss their shuttle to London Gatwick.

This meant all remaining travel to and from the US was cancelled.

The party of eight had checked-in with plenty of time but arrived at the gate just as it gate closed with the plane due to depart.

They were classed as 'no shows' by staff and blocked from stepping onto the aircraft, even though it did not take off for a further half an hour.

Both British Airways and travel agent Budget Air initially refused to help the family and insisted it was standard procedure to cancel all remaining flights on the booking.

But the airline has now relented and vowed to keep the family's seats for the homeward journey.

The Murrays still had to fork a small fortune for alternative travel to the States and lost four days of the trip but they were pleased to make it to the sunshine state on Sunday night.

Teresa said: "We got a phone call from BA to say they were reinstating our flights back from Orlando.

"We're really relieved about it.

"At least we will now get some sort of holiday, we'll get 10 days."

Budget Air had originally rejected pleas to honour the family's return flights, which were paid for as part of a booking worth almost £3,000, and told the Telegraph the seats would be released and resold.

The Murrays had lost all hope that their dream two-week break - their first ever holiday away together - would happen until the last-minute BA intervention allowed them to salvage the trip.

Teresa had booked the holiday as a surprise, particularly for her young grandchildren and nephew, using money left behind by her late mum, who passed away in September.
