YOUNG goalkeepers jumped at the chance to hone their skills over the school summer holidays at a training camp in Greenock.

Twenty-four budding shot-stoppers attended Battery Park for the latest BeNumber1 full-day session at Battery Park.

It was led by academy head coach and founder David Scott, who is from Greenock.

A total of 16 clubs were represented at the summer session with some players in attendance from as far afield as Glasgow and Kilwinning.

David, who is a former Greenock Juniors keeper and coached Rangers Ladies in the past, said: "These full day camp events are hugely popular with the kids, especially on days with this glorious sunshine we have been enjoying.

"These young kids are a credit to themselves, as they are eager to learn, but also put their learning into practice within our training sessions.

"The dedication from the kids and their families has been fantastic and I would like to thank them for that.

"I would also like to thank Arnold Clark Vauxhall in Greenock for their continued support of the academy."

The training camp rounded off a successful season for the young BeNumber1 keepers.

David said: "We have had three goalkeepers win 'player of the year' for the respective clubs at their end of season awards, which is great recognition for the boys and the coaches at the academy."

Next up is a fundraising evening on Saturday August 4 in the Greenock Police Club in aid of a special trip away for the young players.

There is also a 'kids v parents' fun match at Battery Park on Monday August 6.
