ARTISTIC adults brushed up their creative skills at a free class in Greenock.

The 'Silver Living' class, for people over the age of 50, has proved to be a huge success this summer.

Based at the Broomhill Art Flat, the class encourages participants to develop a range of creative skills.

Lauren Grech, a project worker at Rig Arts, which runs the class, said: "We wanted to do a class for older men and women as with that demographic you want to encourage them to get out and into the community and learn new skills or re-learn old skills.

"It allows people to get out and talk to other people.

"We've been doing our project in Broomhill for a couple of years now, so we know that a lot of older men and women don't get out of their flats to meet other people.

"They can be quite isolated so we wanted to do something just for them."

The class, run by textile artists Susan McInnes and Stephanie Davidson, encourage people to try out a range of art skills.

Lauren added: "Susan and Stephanie have been showing people how to make their own stencils so they can screen print onto fabric and they have also been helping them to make cushions and patch work.

"They have also been doing some upcycling with clothing such as turning men's shirts into women's blouses.

"They have also been trying out pottery."

The Silver Living class is at the Broomhill Art Flat at Broomhill Court in Ann Street every Tuesday from noon to 2pm.
