THREE people were taken to hospital following a crash involving a car and a motorcycle in Port Glasgow.

The Telegraph understands that the biker suffered a leg injury and the two elderly occupants of the car were initially attended to by paramedics at the scene.

The accident happened amid rush hour traffic late yesterday afternoon at the top of the town’s Clune Brae, near Newark Primary School.

A Vauxhall Corsa veered into a kerbside barrier and the BMW motorcyclist was left on the roadway.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident amid concern about a fuel leak, which resulted in the road being closed and cordoned off by police.

A spokesman for Port Glasgow fire station said: “Ambulance crews were there when we arrived, no-one was trapped in the car but the elderly occupants remained in the vehicle for a medical assessment.

“The motorcyclist was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital after sustaining a lower right leg injury.

“The two occupants of the car were also taken to hospital for a precautionary check-up.”

Police are believed to be still investigating the matter and no-one was available for comment as we went to press this morning.
