RESIDENTS and staff at a Greenock care home were kept on their toes when youngsters from a local kids' craft group visited them.

The children from Artventurers joined residents at Larkfield View for an afternoon of fun in a first for the care home.

Lindsey Forbes, a staff nurse at Larkfield View attends the Artventurer sessions run by Gourock mum Cheryl Gray, and asked if the group could spend some time with the residents.

Care home manager Elsie Maclennan thought it was a great idea and was delighted to welcome Cheryl and the parents and children.

She said: “It was amazing having the children here, the faces of the residents lit up.

“Even if they don’t join in many of them just enjoy watching the children have fun.

"It often brings back nice memories.”

Local mum of two, Cheryl, who runs Artventurers, said it was lovely to see the residents interact with the children.

She added: “They seemed to enjoy it.

"For us it isn’t about creating masterpieces, it's just about having fun and learning.”

The residents joined the children playing with foam, creating hats, making butterflies, painting, singing and dancing.

Both Cheryl and Elsie plan to loo at making the visit a regular event.

Cheryl created a handprint picture for the care home to have as a keepsake.

Elsie said: “The picture is a lovely gesture and something for us to keep.

“If we continue with it we will look at ways to make the activities more accessible for the residents but I call it a successful trial.”
