KILMACOLM was in full bloom as the village's colourful annual flower show got underway.

Sensational sunflowers, colourful chrysanthemums and delightful dahlias lit up the community centre on Saturday as people gathered to enjoy the horticultural haven.

Tele gardening columnist George Irvine said he was very impressed by the excellent exhibits on display - and one in particular caught his eye.

He said: "The local gardeners of Kilmacolm pulled out the stops for the annual show.

"There were a couple of outstanding exhibits including three in curved chrysanthemum blooms grown by Derrick Russell.

"These are difficult to grow and you don't see a lot of them nowadays so they were very impressive."

George was also impressed by young gardener Orla O’Rourke.

He said: "Orla won the children's classes.

"She made a butterfly out of fruit and vegetables which was a splendid work of art.

"It was so well done and so artistic for a kid to do."
