A FUNDRAISING campaign has been launched to help the family of two Greenock brothers who tragically passed away just four weeks apart.

Dad-of-one Christopher Strachan and older sibling John, who were from Sinclair Street in the east end, were aged just 38 and 41 respectively.

Christopher passed away in his sleep four weeks after John's passing.

Their family and friends have been left devastated by the deaths of the popular pair.

John died on August 7 followed by younger brother Christopher last Sunday.

Friends have set up an online fundraising page in the wake of their deaths to help raise money for their heartbroken family to cover funeral costs.

A staggering £3,000 has been raised within just a few days and the family have thanked everyone for their support at this very difficult time.

The fundraiser was launched by players and staff of Belleaire FC, the club Christopher played with for 15 years and also captained.

A charity match was also played over the weekend at Lady Octavia Sports Centre.

Belleaire player Daniel Mains, who set up the fundraising campaign and was a friend of Christopher's, said: "We are trying to raise some money to help the family at this time of sadness.

"It's unthinkable to lose one son let alone two, and in just four weeks.

"We can't get over it.

"Chris was one of life's true gentlemen and John was very well thought of too.

"Thank you to everyone who has donated so far."

The match was between a Belleaire select, including some of the current squad, and 'old crocks' from the Norseman, a team keen footballer Christopher also played for.

Sean Doyle, Belleaire assistant manager, said: "Chris was one of most liked players I can remember playing for Belleaire.

"He made me laugh every time I was in his company.

"As a mark of respect we have requested a minute's silence before our game."

All proceeds from the match will be added to the money already raised for the Strachan family in memory of Christopher and John.

The original £3,000 target was passed within just a few days and a new £5,000 goal has been set.
