A TOP Inverclyde tennis coach has taken her former club to an employment tribunal in a row over alleged sex discrimination.

Stephanie Norris was appointed as the new head coach for Ardgowan and Matilda Clubs, as well as tennis development officer for the area, in April.

The 31-year-old hails from Gourock and has coached players at county and Scotland level and is one of the only head female coaches in the country qualified to an advanced level.

Stephanie is also a former pupil of Judy Murray and completed a sports management degree at Caledonian University.

During her studies she coached at Strathgryffe Tennis Club in Houston and after a year in Australia spent six years at Giffnock as head coach.

Stephanie is taking Giffnock Tennis Club to an employment tribunal over alleged discrimination after returning to work having had her daughter Hope.

A tweet on social media by Judy Murray didn't name Stephanie but referred to a head coach who had 'returned to work from maternity leave to discover that she had been demoted and hours cut without being told'.

It said: "When a young head coach at one of Scotland’s biggest clubs returns to work after having a baby....and discovers she has been demoted and her hours reduced without any consultation."

The Telegraph contacted Stephanie who said she couldn't comment because the case was going to a tribunal.

A spokeswoman for the Employment Tribunal service confirmed a case management meeting had taken place in connection with Stephanie Norris versus Giffnock Tennis Club on September 18.

No final hearing date has been set as yet.

The Telegraph attempted to contact the club three times but received no response.
