THE family of a woman who passed away after a courageous battle against cancer have raised nearly £3,000 from a charity night in her memory.
Sandra Gault, a devoted wife, mum, grandmother and mother-in-law, sadly passed away on November 8 last year.
As a tribute to Sandra, who was 61, her family organised a quiz night in aid of Ardgowan Hospice at St John’s Hall in Port Glasgow last weekend.
Her daughter Louise, a Greenock based professional photographer, is thrilled with the amount donated on the night.
She said: "We are so overwhelmed, as we really were not expecting to raise £2,868.
"It's brilliant, about 140 people turned up.
"Halfway through the night me and my brother said a wee bit and we did a toast for my mum.
"She would've loved to have been there.
"It was bittersweet in a way because she would've loved the night.
"Everybody who was there knew my mum and it's really nice to know that many people cared for her."
Louise said it also shows how valued the hospice is in the local community.
She added: "It's also testament to Ardgowan Hospice.
"Everybody knows somebody who has used the hospice."
The family are keen to thank Paul O’Kane, who was the quizmaster, and also congratulated the winning quiz team who were 'St Stephen’s +1'.
This weekend, the family are aiming to raise even more money for the hospice by taking part in a 15 mile walk from Sandra's house in Quarry Road in Port Glasgow to Largs.
The family have already raised over £1,000 in sponsorship ahead of the walk, which will be added to the money raised from the quiz night.
