A TALENTED Greenock highland dancer is on top of the world after clinching a top three place in an international contest.

Siobhan Watt, 28, finished third in the World Championships at the recent Cowal Highland Games in Dunoon.

She has been dancing since she was three years old and trains five nights a week.

Siobhan, who hails from Prospecthill View and attended St Laurence's Primary and Notre Dame High, says she has surpassed her own expectations.

She told the Tele: "It is an amazing feeling to know that years of hard work and sacrifice have paid off.

"In 2017 I came sixth in the 'worlds' and I did not think I could peak any higher so to come third in the 'worlds' is definitely something I am proud of and something I thought I could only dream of."

Siobhan attends Fiona MacNeil School of Dancing in Paisley and was swift to praise her teacher for all her support.

She said: "I definitely could not have achieved everything I have in dancing without the help, support and encouragement of my teacher Fiona."

Siobhan, who is also the current Scottish Champion, added: "It is a great achievement for any Scottish dancer to win this title so it feels amazing.

"I don’t really think about it or see myself as the best adult dancer in Scotland as there are so many talented adult dancers in Scotland and across the world."

Siobhan juggles her passion for dance with her day job as a credit risk analyst for Barclays in Glasgow and moved to the city last September.

But she is often home to visit her mum Elizabeth Kelly and sister Lauren.

Siobhan loves performing and says highland dancing is a great way to exercise.

She said: "I love how fit highland dancing keeps you.

"It requires a high level of stamina while also working every part of the body. There is no limit on how much you can improve and there is always something you can work on to become a better dancer."

Her ambition now is to share her skills with a new generation of dancers.

She said: "My next goal for dancing is to pass the exam to become a judge and then hopefully set up my own school, which will allow me to use my own knowledge and experience to help youngsters become the best dancers they can possibly be."
