A TEEN girl is cutting off her beautiful long locks in a show of support for late schoolboy Jayden Orr's family.

Port Glasgow High pupil Emma Docherty was deeply moved by the death of the 10-year-old ice skater.

Now she hopes to raise money for his family's Tele-backed campaign to put life-saving defibrillators into every school in Inverclyde.

Emma and her mum today paid tribute to his parents Kathleen and John for their bravery following the tragedy.

Emma, who lives in Morar Road, said: "I remember Jayden from school and can't believe he is gone.

"It is so sad.

"I wanted to do something to help.

"I really love my hair, but I know it will grow back."

The second year pupil is trying to raise as much money as she can for Jayden's Rainbow, a charity set up by his family.

She is also going to donate her locks to the Princess Trust, so they can help children with cancer.

Mum Gina is proud of Emma's gesture and hopes she can raise as much money as possible.

Jayden's family want to raise awareness of the need for more public access to life-saving defibrillators.

The family joined forces with the Tele in a bid to put them into every local school.

Show Some Heart has also went all the way to the Scottish Parliament in a hope of changing the law - Jayden's family want all new buildings over a certain size to be required to have a defibrillator.

Student nurse Gina, 36, who also has a six-year-old son, Owen, said: "Kathleen and John are inspirational.

"No-one knows how they would cope with what happened.

"Honestly I don't think I could get out of my bed.

"For them to have lost Jayden and then to go on and help other families is so brave."
