MORE than 500 people turned out as Moorfoot Primary celebrated their homecoming with a community open day.

Having been recently refurbished at a cost of £5m the school took the opportunity to combine their annual fete with showing off the new school.

The focus of the event was on health and wellbeing and the school invited along community organisations to host stalls.

As well as 40 stallholders showcasing what the community had to offer, there were plenty of other activities to keep all ages entertained.

Outdoor activities included golf, bowling, basketball and den building then there was a chance to grab something to eat from the barbecue.

Indoors there were stalls, a café, prize raffle and tombola plus a demonstration from a local ballet school and entertainment from the Clydeside Singers.

Christine Murray, depute head teacher, was delighted with the response.

She said: “We really wanted to make this a community event and invited as many organisations along as we could.

“We wanted to encourage adults and children to find something they liked that they could take forward.

“We tried to incorporate the five steps to wellbeing – getting involved, getting active, being inspired, getting connected and continuing to learn.”

As well as taking part in all the activities, those who attended got the chance to see the newly refurbished school.

Mrs Murray added: “Everyone was very impressed.

“We even had some former pupils show up to see what it was like.

"The parent council really worked so hard to put the open day together and everyone seems to have enjoyed it.

"We were delighted with the turnout.

“I would like to thank all the stallholders and voluntary organisations who attended, the volunteers who ensured everything ran smoothly and everyone who turned out to support the school on the day.”
