AN 'eyesore' Greenock footpath has been improved ahead of the completion of a new housing scheme.

Independent councillor Tommy McVey said many residents had contacted him to complain about the poor state of the path which runs between Kestrel Crescent and Mallard Crescent .

River Clyde Homes are building new houses there and local people felt it was time the path was fixed.

Cllr McVey said: "Over the last few years the condition of this path has deteriorated and this has been brought to my attention by several residents.

"I raised this with council officers and it was agreed that improvement works would be carried out.

"To date, the vegetation has been cut back, the railings have been painted and a general tidy-up has taken place.

"In addition, the gullies have been cleaned out to improve drainage and the stairs at the bottom of the path have been repaired."

Further work is also planned to improve the pathway.

He added: "Moving forward the tarmac will be improved and the street lighting will be upgraded.

"With River Clyde Homes building their new houses in Mallard Crescent it is an ideal time to get these environmental improvements done.

"Having been brought up in 'The Valley' myself, I can say that it is a great place to live.

"Getting these small improvements completed helps to enhance the area as a whole, for the benefit of everyone.

"I would like to thank the council officers for their assistance.”
