AN American roots singer came all the way to Inverkip to sing for two of his biggest fans on their wedding day.

Gourock newlyweds Ray and Carole Mills' were stunned when Woody Pines said 'yes' to flying in from Nashville, Tennessee to play them in for their first dance.

Old times blues and folks singer Woody, who has a loyal Scottish following at festivals such as Celtic Connections, brought his home country magic to the Marina.

The couple took to the floor at the Chartroom with their special guest singing his hit 'Satisfied'.

Groom Ray, who married his bride Carole at the Chartroom, said: "It was magic and it meant so much to us.

"We have been to see Woody Pines every time he has been here.

"We first saw him on Mull and we though he was brilliant.

"We chose his song Satisfied for our first dance as it is our favourite.

"Carole sent him a message on Facebook and said it would be great to have him here and he replied and said 'why not?'"

Woody's appearance caused excitement among guests and staff at the Chartroom, with many fans among them.

Ray added: "When he did the soundcheck, people stopped.

"It was lovely.

"He gave us signed copies of his CD and a vinyl as a wedding present."

Music fans Ray, 59, and Carole, 50, first met in the Falklands when they both served in the Royal Navy.

Years later Faslane security guard Ray, originally from Newcastle, plucked up the courage to ask Greenock girl Carole out and they have been together for eight years.

They stay together in Gourock's Jacobs Drive.

Guest of honour Woody joined in the wedding celebrations and even partied in to the night with the rest of the guests.

Ray added: "Our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to."

Troubador Woody, who has appeared on the BBC, said he decided to fly over for the wedding and take another musical tour of Scotland.

Woody said: "This is the first Scottish wedding I have ever been to.

"I wasn't going to pass on an opportunity to come to Scotland - I love it.

"It was lovely to be at Ray and Carole's wedding."
