SCOTLAND rugby boss Gregor Townsend put the Greenock Wanderers Ladies team through their paces at a special training session.

The country's top rugby coach was at Fort Matilda playing fields on Tuesday night after the team won a competition to be coached by the famous ex-player and top coach.

Rugby player Lesley Cadenhead, who is an ex-captain of the Wanderers Ladies, said it was very inspirational.

Lesley told the Tele: "It was really good - it was very fast-paced.

"He said it was the first time that he has coached a ladies rugby session.

"He mixed it up quite a lot so we were always working on different skills and he changed the rules.

"He was really motivational and was such a nice guy.

"At the end he did a question and answer session and he was brilliant."

Lesley, who won the competition for the team, said they will take what they have learned from Gregor and are determined to put it into practice as their season continues.

She said: "We have had a couple of hard weeks recently and have had some really big defeats.

"But this has put a fire in everyone's belly."

Lesley is keen to thank the Scottish Rugby Union and Vitality who organised the competition.
