DETECTIVES are today investigating a serious assault within a Greenock pub which left a man needing seven stitches to a head wound.
The 53-year-old victim was drinking with friends in the Thistle Bar on Lynedoch Street following a function elsewhere when he was attacked.
It is understood that another man assaulted him during an altercation at around 10.20pm on Sunday night.
The matter was reported to Greenock CID yesterday and officers are said to be following a positive line of inquiry.
Detective Sergeant Neil Martin said: "We are still appealing for witnesses to come forward and would ask them to contact us on the 101 number.
"The injured man went to Inverclyde Royal Hospital the day after the assault where he received seven stitches to a head wound."
