THE future is bright at Port Glasgow's Rainbow Family Centre.

The family centre's October holiday hub was a runaway success, with more than 100 children coming along.

They were joined by their parents, who rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into some serious play time.

Throughout the two days there were activities for all including bookbug, games and arts and crafts, while lunch was also served.

Rainbow family support worker Catherine McIntyre said: "We have a great uptake here.

"We have a strong community spirit at the centre.

"I think for families it takes the financial strain out of holidays.

"It can be expensive to entertain children.

"We offer activities and there is also lunch as well.

"Parents were keen to carry it on at home, so the kids had some activities to take away with them.

"Everyone had a great fun together.

"Lots of families don't get the chance to sit down at a table and eat together.

"This gave them the chance to do so."

But the fun and hard work on behalf of families won't stop as the break finishes.

After the holiday the staff at the centre are looking at running a first aid course.
