GYM bosses have told customers to get on their bike - after launching a new state-of-the-art cycle studio.

The facility - one of the first of its kind in the UK - has staff and customers at the Waterfront in a spin following the grand unveiling on Tuesday by British cyclist Jen George.

A former meeting room has been transformed into a futuristic studio housing 16 interactive bikes - which retail at over £4,000 each - from leading fitness equipment manufacturer, Technogym.

Each machine can shift through the gears and has its own screen providing performance updates.

There is also a large screen mounted on the wall allowing users to monitor their progress and compete with others as part of a class, plus colourful lighting, air conditioning and a sound system.

Inverclyde Leisure, say it will revolutionise the current 'spin class' offering and there will be a sixfold increase from 10 to 60 sessions a week.

Elite road racer Jen got the wheels in motion by taking three sessions on Tuesday.

She told the Tele: "The studio is awesome. "It's so nice that they've taken the plunge and put so many bikes in one studio because ultimately it will create a better experience for members here."

Cyclist Jen is the current Scottish National Road Race Champion and competes around the world in the Professional Peloton.

She was on hand to welcome members to try out the bikes along with IL operations manager, Stuart Boyle, and group fitness co-ordinator, Aileen Cameron.

Stuart said: "We've been working on this since about June and there's been a significant investment.

"The studio is fantastic and we're one of the first leisure centres in the UK to have created something like this with these bikes. "The bikes are a game changer, allowing riders to live the emotion and challenge of outdoor cycling.

"Cycling is a wonderful form of low impact exercise that anyone can do.

"Our classes are therefore suitable for all levels of ability."

There will be a mixture of instructor-led and open sessions for people to try out the bikes in groups or on their own.

IL customers who have group fitness and fitness plus memberships can use the facility.
