Members of the West Dunbartonshire branch of UNISON have joined the fight to end pollution caused by plastic waste.
They are planning to visit workplaces to distribute reusable cups to help reduce the use of one-off plastic/paper cups which are then dumped.
It follows a decision taken at the Trades Union Congress to ask unions to work together at a local level to develop low-carbon regional strategies.
Members are backing carbon capture and storage technology, new technology and promotion of recycling.
UNISON said: "A report in the journal Science estimated that an average of eight million tons of plastic waste is dumped in global waters each year, something which should alarm us all."
