THE CURTAIN has gone up on an all-singing, all-dancing spectacular at the Beacon Arts Centre.

More than 120 local youngsters are performing in the Greenock Scout Gang Show this week.

The traditional mix of music and sketches has been entertaining audiences in the town since the 1940s - and remains as popular as ever.

Scouts from all groups across the district unite under the gang show necktie for the week.

Senior cast member Peter Bennett says: "We have around 120 people taking part. The youngest is six from the Beavers, right up to adult leaders.

"It's a bit of fun and a great opportunity for all the groups and the people in the district to get together for the show.

"It doesn't matter what group they come from, they all belong to the gang that week."

There's something to entertain everyone, from an Abba set including ballad Fernando to an explosive gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

Mr Bennett says the revue staged by Greenock and District Scouts helps to boost youngsters' confidence.

He said: "We've got young people who have never had any stage experience and it gives them the confidence to do things they've never done before.

"Their personal development is enriched by being part of a team and working with other people."

The show runs every night at the Beacon Arts Centre at 7.15pm until Saturday.

The Saturday matinee starts at 2.15pm.
