SOUP-ED siblings have zoomed off with a major prize - after customising a toy car!

Little Sophie, six, and Michael Hosie, three, worked with their dad to transform a Cozy Coupe into a sporty sensation and drive off with a prestigious award at a car show in Telford.

The pair live with their parents William Hosie and Alison Gallacher in Curlew Crescent and were inspired by their dad's love of four wheels.

William, 24, said: "I have a unit at the top of Larkfield Industrial Estate and I've had a project on the go there working on my car, a Honda Civic.

"While I'm up there with them I had to find something for them to do to keep them our of mischief.

"I decided to get them involved by telling them to begin customising Sophie's toy car, which she got for her first Christmas.

"We lowered it and painted it - then we used cat bowls for wheels. It was just a wee bit of fun but it caught the judges's eye!"

William, a joiner with Windowcare in Greenock, has always enjoyed going to car shows but says the kids' venture meant gave the whole family an opportunity to take part.

He explained: "We went to a car show in Telford which has a Tikes and Trikes category, and the car, named Gaby won first prize.

"It has now also featured in Fast Car magazine."

Alison, 24, who works in Next in Port Glasgow part-time, said: "They were over the moon when they went on stage to collect the award."

William said: "I used to go to car shows with my friends, my dad was always working with cars.

"The scene always gets a bad name. People think it is just boy racers on the Esplanade, but it shows that we take pride in our vehicles and spending time and money restoring them can be educational too.

"It's good for the kids to experience that first hand for themselves."

Sophie, a pupil at Lady Alice Primary, said: "I feel happy. I feel very proud of myself and Michael."

They now hope to sell Gaby and go to the next level by building a cool 'Tot Rod'.
