A BESPOKE furniture firm has set up a workshop in Greenock.

Start-up business Golden Oak Restoration, which specialises in creating household items from used whisky barrels, has chosen Riverside Inverclyde's (RI) Lynedoch Industrial Estate as its base.

The company employs three specialist woodcrafters and was founded by Rory MacDonald, who is originally from Cove but now lives in Gourock.

Mr MacDonald said: "Having the opportunity to start my own business delivering items that I am passionate about is fantastic. "The premises are precisely what I was looking for to support the business needs and we'd like to thank Riverside Inverclyde for all of their support."

The Lynedoch estate is the largest in RI's portfolio featuring a wide range of companies across 32 units.

Since moving there in September, Golden Oak has been doing well with orders coming in from near and far.

Rory said: "We've been inundated with interest from all over the UK and our aim is to get the business to the level where we are exporting to the USA and Europe. "The offer to provide bespoke furniture which lasts for a lifetime is something people want to cherish."

The company joins the likes of Wet Wall Works, Inverclean, Window Care and Pampered Pets at the Lynedoch estate where there are just two vacant units left.

Andrew Bowman, head of business investment at RI, said: "We are delighted to welcome Golden Oak Restoration to Lynedoch - this exciting new business shows the extraordinary skills and craftsmanship available from within Inverclyde.

"Having seen first-hand the amount of effort and time that goes into each piece each customer can be assured of an exceptional piece of furniture. "The unit is a great match for Golden Oak Restoration's needs and we wish Rory and his team every success."
