A reality television star has joined the campaign to help a Port schoolgirl who is battling cancer

Geordie Shore's Gaz Beadle will visit Greenock this weekend for an event in aid of seriously ill Inverclyde schoolgirl Rosie Mitchell.

He will make a guest appearance at Word Up on Saturday night and club bosses are using it to help raise money for the seven-year-old youngster, who has neuroblastoma.

Fans of Gaz, famed for the MTV series Geordie Shore, can enjoy a VIP 'meet and greet' with him in return for a donation to Rosie's appeal to help pay for her treatment.

Word Up have pledged to match-fund the money raised on the night to boost the fundraising effort.

Adam Gillespie, who is part of the club's management team, said: "Rosie's family need to raise a helluva lot of money and we want to do all we can to help.

"The fundraising so far has been excellent.

"I have a daughter myself and everybody in the office has children so this is something that's close to home in that sense and we'd like to think that the same support would be given to any of us."

Inverclyde has rallied round Rosie and helped raise more than £90,000 for her so far.

But her family still need to find another £100,000 to fund her treatment.

Rosie is currently in Barcelona for initial diagnostic tests, having flown out to Spain on Sunday with her family.

Word Up bosses hope the attraction of having TV star Gaz on Saturday night will encourage even more people to come out and dig deep for Rosie.

It follows the success of an appearance from his fellow Geordie Shore star, Scotty T, at the nightclub recently.

Manager Adam said: "Gaz is another big name and we just thought it would be a bit of an incentive for people to help the appeal. "Our customers enjoy events like these and it gives them an extra reason to come out and the more people who come along then the more donations we get for Rosie."
