A SPARKLING spectacle was enjoyed by families in Gourock as the town's dazzling Christmas lights were illuminated.
The dark winter nights have suddenly got a lot brighter as the community gathered for the big switch-on in Kempock Gardens on Friday.
Pupils from Gourock, Moorfoot and St Ninian's primary schools warmed up the crowds with a well-performed medley of festive songs such as 'Frosty The Snowman', 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' and 'Away In A Manger'.
Excitement then reached fever pitch when Father Christmas arrived alongside gala queen Emma Johnstone, who turned the lights on.
A spokesman for Inverclyde Council said the event put everyone in the Christmas spirit.
He said: "The light switch on went well and young people even got the chance to ask Father Christmas lots of questions.
"We would like to thank all of the groups and individuals involved, especially our school pupils who were in fine voice for making the Gourock light switch on another fantastic festive occasion."
