A SELF-styled 'Bonnie and Clyde' attacked and robbed a vulnerable Port man on his doorstep.

Scott Dodds targeted his 50-year-old victim with accomplice Angela Blainey then ordered him to tell police he'd been fleeced by a 'young team'.

The duo went to the man's flat on Wilson Street in a bid to wring more money out of him for a pair of trainers he'd bought from Dodds, a trial heard.

He told Greenock Sheriff Court: "They attacked me and jumped me and pulled me to the floor.

"Scott put his thumb in my eye and he went to bite my nose.

"Angie was going through my pockets and Scott went through them after her."

The man — who had just £20 on him — said he'd already paid Dodds an agreed £40 for the shoes.

The court heard how a neighbour alerted police and Blainey — who was on bail at the time — hid behind a sofa while Dodds told the man what to say to officers.

The victim said: "Scott said, 'Tell them the young team tried to take money off you', and I went along with it.

"I was too scared."

However, after confiding in his neighbour when Dodds and Blainey had gone, the man decided to call the police himself.

He said: "I told them what really happened."

His neighbour had already told officers: "It sounded like they were hurting or hitting him."

Blainey, of Highholm Street, had to be reprimanded on a number of occasions for making remarks as the victim gave his evidence.

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre found her and Dodds, of Clune Park Street, guilty of assault and robbery.

The pair committed the offence on September 21.

Sheriff McIntyre sentenced Dodds to 12 months imprisonment and deferred sentence on Blainey until next month for a background report.
