A PORT Glasgow woman is fundraising to help make her terminally ill mum’s house more suitable.

Kirsty McGregor Burns moved her wedding from June 2019 to October this year following her mum Helen’s shock diagnosis cancer diagnosis.

In August of this year, Helen, 72, was admitted to hospital with pneumonia but further tests revealed she has terminal lung cancer.

Kirsty’s friend set up a GoFundMe page in order to try and help with the costs of moving the wedding forward.

Now she has organised a fundraiser herself to raise as much as she can to help make her mum's house more comfortable while she receives treatment.

Helen is currently confined to the top floor of her Brookfield Road home for the majority of the time because walking and going down stairs leave her breathless.

Kirsty, 40, is her mum’s primary carer and told the Tele that the roof in her mum's bedroom is leaking and that it will probably need to be replaced.

Kirsty has already managed to have a new stairlift and a new handrail fitted, but more improvements still need to be made.

She said: “I am not the kind of person to ask for help, I am normally the one helping others, but I am so grateful for all the help we have received from people so far.

“The wedding was brilliant and having mum there made it all the more special. She means so much to me.

“I have organised this fundraiser in order to try and get enough money to help make changes around the house. If possible I’d like to move her downstairs away from the damp roof and purchase some things to make life a little easier.”

The event for Helen will be held in the Loretto Club in Greenock on Saturday from 7pm until late.

It will feature guest mediums Jean Speirs, Joanne Davies and Robyn McNicol.

There will also be raffles, a buffet, a quiz and a disco. Tickets are priced at £7. To book contact Kirsty on 07572 817684.
