A GREENOCK care home is appealing for help from the community to create a dementia-friendly garden.

Larkfield View is drawing up plans for a outdoor space which is specifically designed for people diagnosed with the condition.

Manager Elsie MacLennan told the Tele creating a garden is a top priority - but said they need the community's help to make it a reality.

She saus she is hoping to get local residents to pick up tools and get on board over the coming weeks.

They are also working with the Playlist for Life charity to help dementia sufferers in Larkfield View and in the community.

Larkfield manager Elsie said: "We have very close links with our local community.

"We would like people to come on board to help us make this new garden a reality.

"We are looking for anyone with expertise in landscaping or a trade who could lend a hand to come forward. It is so important that we have a suitable space so that all our residents can enjoy the outdoors.

"We have lots of grounds but they are unsuitable for the elderly and we want to make the new area dementia-friendly.

"Larkfield has such a great community.

"We have the nursery and others groups coming in here. We want to build on this and would appreciate whatever help we can get."

A dementia-friendly garden would involve turning the grounds into a sensory area, with appropriate paths and a colour theme.

Staff are now all prepared to pitch in, with tools at the ready when we popped in to visit.

They also recently signed up for the Playlist for Life Charity which encourages people to use music to communicate with people who are diagnosed with dementia.

Elsie added: "We have many residents with dementia and we want to make our care home as comfortable for them as we can."
