A GROUP of volunteers have handed over £100,000 worth of vital equipment to help frontline staff save lives at Inverclyde Royal.

This year the League of Friends have continued their quest to help the teams working in and around the wards.

Thanks to their Helen Wyllie Tea Bar they continue to support the hospital.

The hospital education centre recently received £9,000 worth of cutting edge technology used for resuscitation training for doctors and nurses.

Resuscitation officer David Campbell said: "Honestly I can't thank the League of Friends enough for the what they do.

"Inverclyde Royal is very lucky to have them.

"Thanks to the equipment they donated to me I can continue to do my job in cardiac arrest management.

"We greatly appreciate their support."

This year the charity has handed over a variety of big and small donations.

They have funded a state-of-the-art video system for theatre worth £53,000, as well as patient monitors worth £10,000 for critical care and a video frenzel system for the ear, nose and throat department worth £10,000.

Meanwhile there were televisions for the Larkfield unit, a patient chair for theatre and a dialysis chair for the renal unit.

Up until August this year around £90,000 had been ploughed into the hospital by the charity.

League of Friends chairman Peter Hempsey said: "It is difficult because we get so many bids.

"But we couldn't do it without our volunteers and those who support the tea bar.

"Without them we wouldn't be able to fund the equipment which is not in the budget."
