FIRE crews rushed to tackle a blaze at the main Greenock college campus.
They were called out after reports of flames within the basement area of the West College Scotland campus in Finnart Street at around 5.30pm.
A small section of the foot of Newton Street was cordoned off as fire officers removed debris after extinguishing the blaze.
A spokesman from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "The service was alerted at 5.38pm on to reports of a small fire within a building in Greenock.
“Operations Control mobilised three fire engines to the West College Scotland building on the town's Finnart Street, where crews were met by a fire within a basement area.
“Firefighters currently remain on the scene working to make the area safe."
