RESIDENTS have hit out at housing bosses after a close remains fire damaged after a blaze two years ago.

The walls and ceiling are the rear of the close at 60 Tower Drive is still black.

One man who has two young children also claims the close door is constantly getting kicked in and has been repaired so many times that it needs to be replaced.

The 31-year-old who doesn't want to be named, said: "The close needs painted and the plaster is falling off the ceiling.

"I've asked River Clyde Homes for the close to be painted several times but no-one gets back to you.

"My wee boy is eight and he keeps asking if the fire will happen again.

"The close door has just been fixed but the school kids kick the door in and smoke in the close and leave rubbish behind. You can hear it banging throughout the day. The door needs replaced."

Councillor Lynne Quinn has taken up the complaint and has contacted River Clyde Homes.

She said: "I think it's ridiculous. Everyone in the close has to pass this and it's not something that you want to be reminded of.

How much would it take to paint it?

"People are still talking about the fire, it's quite traumatic for a close to go on fire, for the people in the close and for the whole neighbourhood."

Councillor Quinn has raised the issue with River Clyde Homes this week and is also concerned about the lack of investment in the area.

She said: "We had done a walk through with River Clyde Homes around the area two years ago, highlighting everything that was needing done.

"There's a feeling that there needs to be investment in the area and it's been neglected.

"All you here is about is Broomhill and we are really happy for the folk of Broomhill but we also want a bit of investment.

"They are also planning to build new houses.

"I think they should invest in their existing portfolio. It's a matter of priorities.

"It's like building an extension on my house when the roof is leaking."

Maureen Phillips, 68, who lives on the top floor, said: "It's an absolute disgrace. I've lived here for 40 years and this is the worst it's ever been. I think the area has been neglected."

Graham McDowall, Technical Services Manager, Asset Planning and Development, said: "River Clyde Homes are aware there has been several instances of vandalism affecting the tenants and owner occupiers at Tower Drive.

"We have carried out a number of repairs to damaged doors and we will send a Technical Officer out to do a further inspection.

"Further improvements will be made by the River Clyde Homes Technical Team who will ensure that this address is added to the “close painting” programme being carried out by our subsidiary company River Clyde Property Management.

"We aim to progress this work in the next few months.”
