DRIVERS are facing massive tailbacks as a result of a broken manhole cover on the A8 for the second day in succession.
A tiny section has been closed off on the westbound carriageway on East Hamilton Streeet - causing chaos for those travelling into Greenock from Port Glasgow.
The manhole had been repaired overnight, but flooding has caused it to raise and need further repairs.
With road closures in other parts of Inverclyde, commuters are facing a long, frustrating journey home this evening.
Operators Transerv say they are preparing to carry out repairs overnight to fix the problem and expected the lane to be reopened by tomorrow morning.
A spokesman said: "In order to protect the safety of the travelling public it has been necessary to implement a lane closure on this short stretch of the carriageway.”
Traffic last night was queued back to Ferguson Marine from near Bogston at rush hour.
