A POLICE officer was a law unto herself as she dressed up as Santa to join Greenock schoolchildren for a charity fun run.

Chants of 'ho ho ho' rang out at Whinhill Primary as P7 pupils joined Constable Kirsty Boyd for a festive race.

The energetic event saw the children run round the school hall and take part in an aerobics class.

Constable Boyd, who thanked Tesco in Greenock for donating selection boxes for the children, said: "I was delighted to take part in the Santa Dash to raise money for their school funds.

"It was supposed to take place outside but due to the weather we decided to do it round the gym hall.

"It was a nice way to celebrated Christmas and raise funds for the school."

Pupil Gaby Dickson enjoyed seeing PC Boyd leading the dash.

The 11-year-old said: "Kirsty comes in to our school a lot to help us fundraise.

"It makes us feel happy to see her at our Santa dash.

"Kirsty is a nice person to all of us."

Caroline Homer, who is the P7 teacher, said: "Kirsty is a fantastic support to P7 and the whole school.

"The kids love her, she's always up for getting actively involved with the kids.

"She is a pillar of our community."
