A GREENOCK widow was left distraught after the wreath she laid at her late husband's grave was stolen.

She tied a wreath round her husband's grave at Greenock Cemetery on Sunday December 16.

But just days later the wreath was gone, leaving her extremely upset.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: "There are some very sad people in Inverclyde who steal bikes from small children, mug old women in the street and now steal from the dead.

"For nineteen years I’ve put a wreath at my late husband's grave.

"I was so sad and upset to discover it has been stolen.

"I’d like to say to the person involved, I hope your sad life improves in 2019 and you won’t need to resort to doing such horrible things and can lead a decent life in the future."

The lady said she was in shock when she discovered what happened.

She said: "I had tied the wreath round the headstone so it wouldn't blow away.

"My daughter was up on Saturday 22nd December and it wasn't there.

"I was in Tesco when she phoned me and I felt all the colour drain from my face.

"It was horrific.

"How could someone do that?

"It's absolutely shocking and I just don't understand.

"Can they not see sense and not treat people like that?

"It's rotten, it really is."
