SHOP catalogues bound for dozens of addresses in Gourock were instead dumped at a recycling point in Greenock.

The fly-tipped Next catalogues formed part of a huge mess strewn all over the ground beside the recycling point near Ravenscraig Stadium.

A Tele reader who alerted us to the mess said he was appalled.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: "Rubbish was strewn all over the place at the bins outside the stadium.

"But there was a huge amount of Next catalogues that had residents addresses all from Gourock.

"It looks like the person who was supposed to deliver them couldn't be bothered delivering them to the residents, as what are the odds of every resident at the same time dumping them all at this recycling point.

"There must have been 50 of them.

"It's absolutely ridiculous."

A council spokesman said this is a recurring problem at the site as they received a separate complaint from a resident about the issue in between Christmas and New Year.

He said: "It isn’t acceptable to just dump waste at the side and leave it.

"This is nothing more than fly-tipping and should not be acceptable wherever it happens.

"Even if recycling bins are full, waste should never be left.

"It should be taken to the nearest recycling point, a larger recycling depot or held onto until space is available."

The Telegraph has also contacted Next about the issue.
