INVERCLYDE'S MP has launched a stinging attack on the UK Government's proposed Brexit deal ahead of tonight's crunch vote.
Ronnie Cowan is to vote against prime minister Theresa May's withdrawal agreement in the House of Commons.
He says the PM's deal is unacceptable and would be bad news for the district.
Mr Cowan said: "This deal would be bad for Inverclyde and bad for Scotland, taking us out of the single market - which is eight times the size of the UK alone - and posing a huge threat to jobs, investment and living standards.
"By 2030, under a free trade agreement, GDP would be around £9 billion lower than if we stayed in the EU, equivalent to a £1,600 cost per person in Scotland.
"The SNP believe, short of continued EU membership, permanent membership of the single market and customs union is a must.
"In Inverclyde, of those who voted in the referendum 63.8 per cent voted to remain in the European Union.
"With the Tory government incapable of governing and the Labour opposition unable to oppose the disastrous Brexit plans, the SNP will not idly stand by as the economy, jobs and livelihoods are threatened."
The Brexit 'meaningful vote' will take place tonight having been called off last month.
Reports suggest a majority of MPs will oppose Mrs May's proposals.
