GUN-TOTING gangsters are set to storm a Greenock theatre.

Iconic stage show Bugsy Malone, set in prohibition era America, is coming to the Beacon on January 25 and 26.

Inverclyde Musical Youth Theatre is putting on the production and the team have been busy rehearsing or months.

Karen Henry, director, said: "We have a cast of 60 six to 12 year-olds and it's all local kids.

"The great thing about Bugsy Malone is that it was written specifically for children.

"Around 30 kids have a part, be it one line or a major role, so it gives a lot of people a chance to have a part in the show.

"They're starting to enjoy it, it's coming together."

The famed story follows the rise of Bugsy and the battle for power between Fat Sam and Dandy Dan.

As well as a wardrobe of sharp suits, glam dresses, feather boas there is a fabulous set plus great songs such as My Name is Tallulah, Fat Sam's Grand Slam, So You Want To Be A Boxer and Tomorrow.

There also plenty of slapstick moments to enjoy.

Karen said: "There are a lot of comedy moments in it.

"The kids have all worked very hard and have put their heart and soul into it."

The show starts at 7.30pm on Friday and there are two performances on Saturday, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
