A TRAVEL has been drawn up for the new Greenock Health Centre - including parking for over 220 cars.

Health bosses say the plan aims to provide a range of transport and travel solutions to make sure that patients and staff can easily access the £21m centre.

It will be reviewed by the Inverclyde Council Planning Board at their meeting next month.

A spokesman for the Inverclyde Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) said: "As part of the planning permission for the new centre, the council’s planning board required it to include a travel plan.

"This has now been submitted to planners and is expected to reviewed by the board in February.

"The travel plan aims to provide a range of transport and travel solutions to make sure that patients and staff can easily access the new centre."

The HSCP spokesman said that the travel plan was developed following consultation.

He added: "In developing the plans, a number of stakeholder events were held in the town centre, where parking and other travel issues were discussed.

"Further public consultation meetings are planned in the development of the new centre.

"There was also a consultation with colleagues in the council’s roads service, as well as local bus companies.

"The plans for the new health centre include a total of 222 parking spaces which is far more than the current health centre offers."

As reported in the Tele, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) has been given the go-ahead and the cash from the Scottish Government to begin construction work at the former Wellington Academy site.

There is no exact start date as yet but work is expected to get under way within weeks, with the project scheduled for completion by autumn 2020.

Once completed, the new-build will replace the current health centre in Duncan Street, which is has fallen into a state of disrepair and is no longer deemed fit for purpose.
