A TENANT with serious health issues told today how he's been left without hot water at his flat for THREE YEARS.

William Campbell slammed River Clyde Homes (RCH) over this and a raft of other failings he says he's had to endure.

The 55-year-old Gourock man said he watched as one contractor stuffed a 'sorry I missed you' card through the door of his common close — while he was at home.

Mr Campbell — who has suffered a series of mini-strokes and seizures — said: "He didn't even come up to my front door.

"I was in the whole time and I had to go down and get him to come up to my flat.

"It's a typical example of what's been going on."

It is the second time in as many weeks that RCH has come in for severe criticism from a Gourock tenant amid allegations of serious safety failings.

Julieanne Rennie, of Sharp Street, told the Telegraph last Friday how she suffered an 'emotional breakdown' as a result of seven years of major problems at her 'House of Horrors', including gas leak scares and chronic dampness.

But RCH — who apologised to Miss Rennie last week — today insisted regarding Mr Campbell's case that 35 attempts have been made to access his flat.

It is understood that these were a combination of phone calls, cancelled appointments and no access issues since last November.

Mr Campbell, of Margaret Street, said: "I totally reject what they're saying, and it doesn't answer why I've had no hot water for three years."

He told how drugs raid police battered their way into his flat last September following a misinformed tip-off and RCH has still not repaired the damage caused to his front door.

Mr Campbell said: "I take an awful lot of medication for all my health issues, which I don't really want to go into, and some people must have reported me.

"The police apologised to me immediately for the misunderstanding but my door has still not been fixed by the housing association — and that's since September 14 last year — and it's not properly secure."

Greenock police confirmed that the raid had taken place with a 'negative result' for illegal drugs.

Mr Campbell said: "Water has been coming through my living room windows and soaking my wooden floor because the seals are no use.

"I've had no hot water for the whole three years I've been here.

"Every time I wash my dishes I have to boil the kettle.

"There's cracks all over the place in my walls and ceilings.

"I asked for plasterers 18 months ago and the work's still not been done."

He told how his mental health has suffered as a result of 'nothing being done', and that his family has had to rally round him to keep his spirits up

Mr Campbell said: "They've started putting new boilers and central heating at other places, but I'm still waiting."

Graham McDowall, RCH's technical services manager, said: "Unfortunately we have had significant problems gaining access to this tenant’s property to carry out repairs and to schedule the installation of a new heating system.

"As recently as last week, access was denied to our operatives who were there to install a new immersion heater. We are keen to keep all homes safe, warm and watertight and hope Mr Campbell will allow us access on our next attempt."
