KEEP fit fans are making a splash at popular aqua aerobics classes in the Port Baths.

We popped along as the ladies were put through their paces by top instructor Mo Logue at the fun session.

The group say it's a great way to keep fit and make new friends.

Margaret McKenna, 71, who goes to the classes twice a week, said: "I love it.

"I've been coming for three years and I've enjoyed every minute of it. It keeps you fit and we have a great instructor."

Esther Fitzpatrick, 69, said: "I like the company. It's a community thing, good fun and good exercise.

"It helps your joints. I couldn't move before because of arthritis but the buoyancy of the water helps."

Instructor Mo says aqua aerobics is ideal for people who may have health issues.

She said: "It's good for older people who have trouble with movement. You don't have the same impact as on a hard surface, so it's kinder to your joints.

"It's a great atmosphere and the Port people are brilliant.

"They always welcome you and are very cheery."

The classes run on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am until 11am.

Marc McFarlane, manager of Port Glasgow Baths, said: "It's a well established and popular class.

"There's a good community feel about the baths in general and with familiar faces coming in to use the facilities."
