A FITNESS class re-established last year is proving to be a source of fun and friendship.

The senior keep fit group at Inverkip Parish Church was established a number of years ago by the late Cliff Lyons.

Following Mr Lyons' death and the departure of the class leader the group ground to a halt.

Now it has been relaunched and is thriving with 24 people on the register.

With the help of Inverkip Community Enterprise a new leader, Grace Gilchrist, was found and she enlisted three of the original members to get things going again.

People from the village, Wemyss Bay and Skelmorlie come along to improve their posture, balance and strength.

Grace said: “Age is no barrier, our oldest member is in her 90th year, and our youngest not far into her 50s.

“A selection of music ranging from the Pretenders, Robbie Williams and George Ezra to Andrea Bocelli means you almost forget you are exercising.

“Despite working hard, there is plenty of laughter during the class and friendships have been formed too.

"Feedback from the class has been most positive.”

One member said: “It's definitely the best hour of my week.

"I wish I had joined years ago.”

Another added: “I enjoy the class as it helps my arthritis to exercise and doing it in company is far more fun and enjoyable.”

The classes run from 10am until 11am every Friday.
