A GOUROCK man has been convicted of raping a teenage girl and sexually abusing a five-year-old boy.

Brian Daisley, 39, of Royal Street, had claimed that his young victims were lying, but a jury at the High Court in Glasgow did not believe him.

Daisley was dismissed from his job as a carer when an investigation into the appalling crimes was launched.

He sexually abused the girl when she was aged between nine and 12 at addresses in Wemyss Bay and Greenock.

He raped her when she was aged 13 and 14, at addresses in Greenock and Gourock.

The boy was sexually abused on various occasions at an address in Gourock when he was five.

Daisley even bit the youngster on his groin leaving teeth marks.

Prosecutor Bill McVicar told the court that it was all part of a course of conduct by Daisley who he said groomed the girl.

She told the court she was repeatedly raped by Daisley and tried to blot out what had happened.

It was only when the girl wrongly believed she was pregnant that she revealed to her mother what the rapist had done to her.

She said: “The first few times it happened I tried to push him, but I couldn't.

"I was just trying to put it to the back of my mind.

"I think it was something I didn't want to think about.

"If I ever do think about it it makes me very upset.”

Judge Michael O'Grady QC placed Daisley on the Sex Offenders Register and remanded him in custody.

Judge O'Grady told him: “You have been found guilty of an appalling course of conduct.

"Custody is inevitable and it will be a significant period.”

Daisley, who showed no emotion as he was led away, will be sentenced on March 5 once background reports have been compiled.
