A FITNESS class labelled 'exercise in disguise' is is giving older people a new lease of life.

Zumba Gold classes run at Inverkip Hub every Wednesday, led by instructor Ursula McAuslan.

The class is aimed at the over 50s, those getting back into exercise and who haven’t tried Zumba before.

The low impact sessions allow everyone to work at their own pace.

Dorothy Orobczuk, 70, from Inverkip has been at the classes at the hub since they started.

She said: “I loved it from day one, I have had a knee replacement and I am due to get another one this year.

"Zumba Gold is ideal because I can work at my own pace and build back up.

“It gets me out and keeps me active and sometimes I attend three classes a week.

"I have recommended it to a lot of people.

“It gets me out of the house, I get to meet people I wouldn’t otherwise have met and I am exercising and keeping active without realising because I enjoy it so much.”

Dorothy has made a number of new friends from attending the group and praised Ursula for making it so enjoyable.

She said: “Ursula is great, she makes it fun, she is always on hand to help and is happy for us to work at our own pace.

"We are all good friends and it's such an enjoyable hour.”

The friendships also extend outwith the group and when Dorothy turned 70 the group organised a surprise party for her at The Chartroom.

Dorothy said: “We are a friendly group.

"If anyone was thinking of giving it a go I’d say come along, you can work at your own pace and it’s a great way to meet new people."

The class runs on Wednesdays from 2 until 3pm.
