A MAN aged 57 suffered facial injuries following an attack outside Port Glasgow bowling club last night.
He was punched in the face during a serious assault carried out by at least two men outside the clubhouse in Birkmyre Avenue at around 11.25pm.
The police were called and the victim had to be taken to Inverclyde Royal for treatment.
Detective Sergeant Neil Martin of Greenock CID said: "It appears there was a function and it spilled outside. There were possibly two involved and both were in their mid to late 20s.
"We are appealing for any information."
The victim required three stitches to his face as a result of the assault and was later allowed home.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the serious assault to contact them on 101.
Officers are understood to be following a positive line of inquiry.
