A TESCO delivery driver was assaulted in Greenock yesterday afternoon.
The shocking incident happened at 3.30pm in Larkfield.
Greenock CID unit say the 44-year-old driver was approached by a man who demanded the contents of the van before throwing an item at the driver.
The culprit fled empty handed and detectives are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A spokeswoman from Greenock CID said: "A 44-year-old male Tesco delivery driver was sitting in his van in Angus Road when he was approached by a male described as being white, about 5ft 8 inches tall with a stocky build, in his late 30s with dark hair and was wearing a light grey hoodie, black trousers and trainers.
"The male has made several demands to the driver for the contents of the van and thereafter threw an item which caused the driver a minor injury.
"Nothing was taken.
"We are treating this as an assault with intent to rob."
