ARTWORK created by talented schoolchildren is to be brought to life in a special mural.

Children on the eco committee at Inverkip Primary tasked their classmates to design posters with the theme 'life below water'.

Local artist Jim Strachan selected three winning posters and now the designs will be featured in the mural.

Victoria Chalmers,P6/5 teacher, said the talented trio - Carly Wilson, Bruce Benson and Cameryn Foley - will team up with Jim to create the artwork.

She said: "At the beginning of the year, the children on the committee looked at what they wanted to achieve and one of their ideas was to brighten up the playground by creating a mural.

"They decided to open up a competition to the whole school as one of the committee members felt it was unfair to just involve the older boys and girls."

The eco committee work hard throughout the year and take part in activities like beach cleans, so their mural theme reflects their efforts.

Mrs Chalmers added: "This project is great as they get their voices heard.

"It's all about their ideas."

The children have also organised a bag pack at Port Glasgow Tesco store on March 23 to support their project.

Mrs Chalmers added: "We're hoping to unveil the mural by April and the children plan to create a new one every two years."
