YOUNG pupils from a Gourock school have their own mental health in mind after a special week of activities.

St Ninian’s Primary took part in Children’s Mental Health Week, with youngsters enjoying yoga, massages, reading sessions, mile walks and learning about breathing techniques.

The school worked with partners like Barnardo's and Active Schools to devise a programme making sure everyone felt their best.

Depute head teacher Siobhan Currie said: “We have been focusing on being healthy inside and out, and looking at the simple things we can do to help our mental health including exercising, having a balanced diet and getting enough sleep.”

Claire Munn, Active Schools co-ordinator, added: “A healthy mind comes from a healthy body and we have been working on some physical activities with the pupils to show them how exercise can help.

“They all seem to have really enjoyed it, it is something different, some of the pupils were shy to start but once they get into it, they have fun.

“I think it is important we are here, not only are we here for Children’s Mental Health Week but we are here for clubs after school and can continue to help.”

The pupils got a lot out of the action-packed week-long event.

Charlie Rose, nine, said: “I like running so that was my favourite.

"I like that we have been doing different things in school and I have learned that it is good to exercise.”

Class teacher Yazmin Tait added: “The week was a great success with lots going on,.

"I think it’s important that children should be educated on mental health and during our week they learned from the experts.

“They are recognising the importance of mental health and being made aware of the help available."
